I went on a mission trip to Recife, Brazil, and what I remember most – still – is how spoiled and privileged it made me feel. I used to complain about making my bed or picking up my stuff and cleaning my room. A lot of the Brazilians I met never had to. They didn't have their own room. They didn't have any "stuff" to pick up. Some didn't even have their own bed. We GET TO throw our dirty laundry into a washer and dryer. Many of my Brazilian friends washed the few clothes they had by hand, and then hung them out to dry. We GET TO empty the dishwasher, while many Brazilians wash and dry their dishes by hand. And we GET TO mow the yard. In Reciefe, most people don't even have a yard to play in. My brother hates to empty the trash. In some parts of Brazil, I hear they dig through the trash, just hoping to find their next meal. There are so many things we GET TO do, We're so blessed. I think I've GOT TO go tell God Thanks! 'cause I certainly don't deserve it. – Samantha |
